How Our Church Can Help YOUR DISCIPLESHIP
The Great Commission of Jesus defines our churchwide mission to make disciples. In it, He commanded that we: "...go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you" (Matthew 28:19-20).
All of us are called to be disciples, and to make disciples. To learn, and to teach. To follow, and to lead. At BCBC, we want to create many contexts for discipleship to happen - opportunities for people to connect with each other, discuss the truths of God's Word, practice serving on mission together, and caring for each other through the various stages and challenges of life. Being in a church is much like being in a family - we practice discipleship by being together and "doing life" together.
Here are five key steps you can take in our church to help you on your discipleship journey:
Step 1: Attend Worship Services
Gathering for worship together is a cornerstone habit of Jesus followers. Every week, we come together to sing, pray, and dive into God’s Word, celebrating His love and grace. These meetings are a chance to refocus on Jesus, be inspired by His teachings and by others in our church family. You can attend either our 9:30 or 11:00 service on Sundays, and we'll offer you opportunities there to connect with the Lord and with other people.
“Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works. And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near.” – Hebrews 10:24-25
Step 2: Join a Life Group.
Life Groups are where faith becomes personal and friendships grow deep. These small groups meet regularly to study the Bible, pray, and share life’s ups and downs. They’re a safe space to ask questions, explore Jesus’ teachings, and support one another in living out your faith. Joining a Life Group helps you build lasting relationships and discover how God’s Word applies to your everyday life. It’s like finding a second family that cheers you on as you follow Jesus! Step 3: Try Learning Electives
Our Learning Electives are short-term classes designed to help you grow in specific areas of your faith. From understanding the Bible better to exploring topics like prayer, marriage, or sharing your faith, these courses offer practical tools to deepen your walk with Jesus. They’re perfect for busy schedules and open to everyone, no matter where you are in your journey. By joining a Learning Elective, you’ll gain confidence to live out your faith in new and exciting ways. Get started here.
“Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do.” – Joshua 1:8
Step 4: Enjoy Life Stage Ministries
Following Jesus looks different at every stage of life, and our Life Stage Ministries are here to meet you where you are. Whether you’re a student, single, married, a parent, or enjoying your golden years, we have groups and events tailored to your unique season. These ministries offer encouragement, relevant teaching, and opportunities to connect with others who share your experiences. They help you apply Jesus’ teachings to your daily life and grow as a disciple, no matter your age or stage. Curious about what life stage ministries we have for you? Drop us a note and we'll match you with available opportunities.
"In the last days,’ God says, ‘I will pour out my Spirit upon all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy. Your young men will see visions, and your old men will dream dreams.’” – Acts 2:17
Step 5: Participate by Volunteering, Giving, and Praying
Discipleship comes alive when we serve, give, and pray. Volunteering in our church or community, giving generously, and praying faithfully are practical ways to show Jesus’ love to others. Whether you’re serving on a team, supporting our ministries financially, or lifting up needs in prayer, these actions deepen your faith and make a real difference. They remind us that following Jesus isn’t just about what we receive—it’s about sharing His heart with the world. And, when we read about the first disciples of Jesus, we see that He trained them by inviting them to serve with Him, not just hear from Him.
“And don’t forget to do good and to share with those in need. These are the sacrifices that please God.” – Hebrews 13:16
