Going Deeper IN YOUR CHRISTIAN LIFE

It's so exciting being a Christian - and recognizing that there are always new things to learn about God, about His Word, and about how you can live as a disciple of Christ.  If you'd like to get pointed in the right direction, here are a few ideas beyond the discipleship plan at church we've already outlined.

LISTEN TO OUR MESSAGE ARCHIVE: You can go back through years of teaching series at BCBC - and learn about all sorts of important aspects of faith.  Would you like to learn the doctrinal basis of Christianity? Check out the series called "Basic Christianity" from 2022.  Interested in becoming a better neighbor, and making new friends?  Scroll back to "B.L.E.S.S. Your Neighbors" series from 2024.  Or how about diving deep into a book of the Bible, like Hebrews? You can find that in early 2024.  Interested in the work of the Holy Spirit? Learn all about the book of Acts from "The Spirit Within" - our 2023 series. We have series about everything from marriage to money, from theology to personal witness, from overcoming bad habits to finding daily peace in turmoil.  Find sermon series online here; or, if you prefer Apple Podcasts, we have everything available there as well.

WATCH OR LISTEN TO GREAT ONLINE CONTENT: The following sites, channels, and podcasts are great to bookmark, follow, or subscribe to - to keep learning and growing.  To begin:

  • The Bible Project has many videos and tools you can learn from. You'll love their summaries of Bible books and key concepts. For example, here's their video explainer on the New Testament.
  • Answers in Genesis is the host ministry of the popular Creation Museum in Kentucky. Their site is full of interesting data about God's creation, and they have great answers to many questions that skeptics raise about the Bible.
  • Revive Our Hearts is an international ministry for women that helps ladies dive deep into God's Word. They have hundreds of helpful podcasts, books, and even live events you can attend.
  • The Bible Recap provides bite-sized podcasts and resources that can help you consider small portions of the Bible each day and consider how the truth should impact your life.
  • Focus on the Family is filled with practical wisdom on relationships, marriage, parenting, and cultural issues from a Bible-centered perspective.

ORDER A FEW GREAT BOOKS: There are many great books available that can help you grow in your faith and deal with various issues in life from a Christian perspective. Here are some recommendations to get started:

- Basic Christianity by John Stott (to clearly understand the gospel)
The Purpose-Driven Life by Rick Warren (to begin your relationship with God)
Halley's Bible Handbook by Henry Halley (to help with personal Bible study)
- A Study Bible (a study Bible includes extra notes about history and context to help you learn more)
- The Case for Christ by Lee Strobel (to learn more about why we trust Jesus)
- Knowing God by J.I. Packer (to learn basic theology)
- The Celebration of Discipline by Richard Foster (to learn daily spiritual practices)

Of course, there many other wonderful books available that can help you grow!  We hope these will give you a healthy head start on your journey of discipleship.

While self-guided study of the Bible is vitally important (read Psalm 119 to get motivated), it's also important to learn and grow in the context of friends and mentors (Hebrews 10:24-25).   That's one of the reasons we so highly recommend joining a church Life Group or attending a Learning Elective as you strive to go deeper in your faith.
